    • CAFG increased production of bone morphogenetic protein-2 by osteoblasts and chondrocytes via the stimulation of canonical Wnt pathway, which is a clinically validated osteogenic pathway.
    • The bone anabolic effect of the extract was observed at an oral dose of 250mg/kg/day.

    E-MAL ( Arteether )

For cerebral malaria as a second line treatment for chloroquine resistant cases, licensed to Themis Chemicals Ltd., Mumbai in 1997.

    • Arteether is a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin, the active constituent of the plant, Artemisia annua.
    • It is found to be safe and also fast acting, blood schizontocidal agent which attacks at the erythrocytic stage of malaria in blood.
    • Arteether has been jointly developed by CSIR-CDRI & CSIR-CIMAP and is being prescribed to the patients as second line of treatment for chloroquine-resistant P. falciparum malaria including cerebral malaria.

    • Reduces the osteophyte formation and thus pain reduction with improvement in walking ability.

    Research Highlights

    Metabolic Disorders

The study identifies the novel action of Withaferin A, a naturally occurring molecule derived from Ashwagandha (Withania somifera, (L.) Dunal) in protecting bones from high fat diet induced changes. Oral administration of the Withaferin A was found active.

    Parasitics Infections

The study identifies an apicoplast-targeted exonuclease (PfExo) in Plasmodium falciparum with a unique LCR insertion that expands its substrate range and is essential for apicoplast DNA replication. The insertion enhances PfExo 's functionality compared to its rodent ortholog, underscoring its c...

    Neurological Disorders

Oral administration of CSP-TTK21 in mice and rats induces long-term potentiation and improves motor function and regeneration-associated gene expression in spinal injury models, matching the efficacy of intraperitoneal administration without toxicity.

    Cancer

Mantle cell lymphoma is an incurable subtype of B-cell lymphoma which is very heterogeneous. This study identified a few MCL cells adhered to stromal cells have cancer stem cell-like (CSCs) characteristics and expresses high level of lncRNA “CERS-AS1” which regulates oncogenic signaling by stabilizi...
