    Reunion ( Dalzbone )

Success Story of Development of New Herbal Medication for Bone Health.

    • Dalbergia sissoo, (popularly known as sheesham) was found to contain novel osteogenic compound, caviunin-7-O-[β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1→6)-β-D glucopyranoside (CAFG).
    • CAFG increased production of bone morphogenetic protein-2 by osteoblasts and chondrocytes via the stimulation of canonical Wnt pathway, which is a clinically validated osteogenic pathway.
    • The bone anabolic effect of the extract was observed at an oral dose of 250mg/kg/day.

    E-MAL ( Arteether )

For cerebral malaria as a second line treatment for chloroquine resistant cases, licensed to Themis Chemicals Ltd., Mumbai in 1997.

    • Arteether is a semi-synthetic derivative of artemisinin, the active constituent of the plant, Artemisia annua.
    • It is found to be safe and also fast acting, blood schizontocidal agent which attacks at the erythrocytic stage of malaria in blood.
    • Arteether has been jointly developed by CSIR-CDRI & CSIR-CIMAP and is being prescribed to the patients as second line of treatment for chloroquine-resistant P. falciparum malaria including cerebral malaria.

    Saheli ( Centchroman )

First non steroidal female oral contraceptive Licensed to HLL Lifecare Ltd., in 1992 & being marketed as SAHELI.

    • first in the world non-steroidal oral contraceptive pill.
    • The only anti-implantation agent approved for clinical use in the world.
    • Offers a unique combination of weak estrogenic and potent anti-estrogenic properties.
    • It is also indicated for Uterine dysfunction, Mastalgia, Fibroadenoma and as Emergency contraceptive.

    KeenMind ( Bacopa Extract)

Keenmind is marketed through Soho Flordis International, Sydney, Australia .

    • CSIR-CDRI developed a formulation of enriched Bacopa extract (BESEB).
    • It is a clinically proven natural product which improves memory, learning, concentration.
    • This has anti-oxidant, anti-stress & anti-anxiety properties. BESEB is recommended for ADHD children & AAMI in elderly subjects.

    Joint Fresh

Standardized nano-formulation from Spinacea oleracea commonly known as Palak for osteoarthritis.

    • Technology Licensed to Pharmanza Herbals Pvt. Ltd.
    • Spinacia has the ability to lay more cartilage cells and thus resulted in cartilage protective effects.
    • Histological, radiological and micro CT analysis of knee joints showed improvement in the joint space and improved irregularity of the articular and atrophied femoral condyles and tibial plateau.
    • Reduces the osteophyte formation and thus pain reduction with improvement in walking ability.

    Research Highlights

    Metabolic Disorders

The study identifies the novel action of Withaferin A, a naturally occurring molecule derived from Ashwagandha (Withania somifera, (L.) Dunal) in protecting bones from high fat diet induced changes. Oral administration of the Withaferin A was found active.

    Parasitic Infections

The study identifies an apicoplast-targeted exonuclease (PfExo) in Plasmodium falciparum with a unique LCR insertion that expands its substrate range and is essential for apicoplast DNA replication. The insertion enhances PfExo 's functionality compared to its rodent ortholog, underscoring its c...

    Neurological Disorders

Oral administration of CSP-TTK21 in mice and rats induces long-term potentiation and improves motor function and regeneration-associated gene expression in spinal injury models, matching the efficacy of intraperitoneal administration without toxicity.

    Cancer

Mantle cell lymphoma is an incurable subtype of B-cell lymphoma which is very heterogeneous. This study identified a few MCL cells adhered to stromal cells have cancer stem cell-like (CSCs) characteristics and expresses high level of lncRNA “CERS-AS1” which regulates oncogenic signaling by stabilizi...
    ×

Targeting CERS6-AS1/FGFR1 axis as synthetic vulnerability to constrain stromal cells supported proliferation in Mantle cell lymphoma (Leukemia. 2024 Oct;38(10):2196-2209)

    ×

Withaferin A Ameliorated the Bone Marrow Fat Content in Obese Male Mice by Favoring Osteogenesis in Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Preserving the Bone Mineral Density. (ACS Pharmacology & Translational Science 2024 7 (9), 2621-2636)
