Drug discovery, development and testing involve essential preclinical evaluation and testing of novel molecules in experimental laboratory animals. CSIR-CDRI being a country’s premier institute in the area of drug discovery and development, the laboratory animal facility plays the key roles in supplying required quality research animals. The Laboratory Animal Facility of CSIR-CDRI harbors various species of both rodent and non-rodent including non-human primates. Production and supply of quality well defined animal helps generation of valid and reliable experimental outcomes. We in our facility involve in production and supply of quality healthy research animals for institute’s research projects as well as to outside research institutes/industries across the country for use in biomedical research. Regular quality health monitoring such as genetic characterization, microbiological and pathological screening of animals are being performed. Besides, we developed both syngeneic and surgically induced animal models for various disease areas like radioprotection, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, bone health, chronic kidney disease (CKD), wound healing, surgical implants etc to study the disease pathology and its possible therapeutics. Existing Primate Facility facilitates conduct of regulatory and other pharmacological neurobehavioral studies as per regulatory norms.
